new post

new post ... what on earth for, been writing on my Marine daughter's blog for over a year now .. she makes me so proud but I also get nervous of when she returns I won't know who she is. I worry about her daily and she's always in my thoughts and prayers.
but the same goes for my son even though he lives at home he makes me nervous daily .. works all night and goes to college all day. No real sleep and with a girlfriend no sleep at all... and you mean to tell me the docs say the answer to my health problems is for no stress ....hahahah they make me laugh. Getting real nervous I have many an important doctor appointment coming up....one is with a new neurologist and the other is with a special cardiologist an Electrophysiologist .. wow what a mouthful lol. So the the neuro is really for a second opinion because I got so upset with my last one.. I wrote a letter to my insurance and now they are sending me to a different one, can you believe my whole plan and they have one neuro who has no bed side manner and doesn't listen to the patient the the other doc I looked it up and posted some facts below....

electrophysiology key facts
  • Electrophysiology is the fastest growing of all the cardiovascular disciplines.

  • Electrophysiologists are cardiologists who have additional education and training in the diagnosis and treatment of abnormal heart rhythms. Close collaboration between electrophysiologists and other doctors who treat patients with heart disease is important.

  • Based on the Heart Rhythm Society Workforce Survey, 999 electrophysiologists1 (experts in heart rhythm disorders) were identified for the 1995 U.S. population of 263,434,000, a ratio of 1:263,690.

  • Of these 999, 795 are certified as having added special competency in electrophysiology by the American Board of Internal Medicine. Many have also passed the NASPExAM, the examination of special competence in cardiac pacing and implantable defibrillation.

  • With about 16,000 cardiologists in the United States, these numbers result in 1 electrophysiologist:16 cardiologists.

  • When the number of electrophysiologists/1,000,000 population is calculated, the U.S. average was 3.79/1,000,000.

  • Twenty-one states had less than 8 electrophysiologists and 12 states had less than 2.2 electrophysiologists/1,000,000 population.

  • Major cities, such as Philadelphia and Washington, DC, had high electrophysiologist/population densities. For example, there are some 50 electrophysiologists in the metropolitan Philadelphia area. In contrast, some rural areas have a minimal number of electrophysiologists (e.g., at the time of the survey, there was only one electrophysiologist in Idaho).

  • Even in states that have electrophysiologist densities higher than the national average, patients may have to travel over 250 miles to the nearest electrophysiologist. For example, New Mexico has 3.93 electrophysiologists/1,000,000 population, however, all are located in Albuquerque.
When to See an Electrophysiologist
Electrophysiologists determine whether an individual is in a group that is at high risk for SCA or other cardiovascular diseases.

A number of tests may be performed including:
  • **(done it)**Echocardiogram. In this painless, noninvasive test, a device called a transducer is placed on the chest and sound waves are bounced off the heart. This provides a moving picture of the heart.

  • **(done it twice)** Holter monitors are external devices that are worn by an individual who may be at risk for heart disease. The monitor automatically records a continuous electrocardiogram (ECG) of the heart's electrical activity; it usually is worn for 24 to 48 hours.

  • **(had it too)**An event recorder is a small, pager-sized device that also records the electrical activity of the heart. Unlike a Holter monitor, it does not operate continuously, but instead is activated by the individual whenever he or she feels the heart begin to beat too fast or chaotically. After the device is activated to record the heart rhythm, the patient can report the event and transmit the recording by phone to his doctor or other health care provider.

  • An electrophysiology study (EPS) is a test that can help predict if an individual is at high risk for sudden cardiac arrest. Signals are administered to the heart muscle in patterns to see if they will stimulate ventricular tachycardia (VT). The test is performed in a safe and controlled electrophysiology laboratory at a hospital or clinic and the patient is in no danger. In an EP study, local anesthetics are used to numb areas in the groin or near the neck, and small catheters are passed into the heart to record its electrical signals. During the study, the physician studies the speed and flow of electrical signals through the heart, identifies rhythm problems and pinpoints areas in the heart's muscle that give rise to abnormal electrical signals.

    An electrophysiology study can:

    • Identify which patients who have had a prior heart attack, or MI, are at risk for serious ventricular arrhythmias and, perhaps, SCA.
    • Help determine which patients may require aggressive treatment to prevent sudden cardiac arrest.
    • Identify individuals whose hearts cannot be induced into dangerous arrhythmias. They appear at lower risk for developing spontaneous, sustained VT that can lead to ventricular fibrillation and sudden cardiac arrest.

from the heart rhythm society thank you for the info
  • I was scared till I read this not so nervous now ..good info ...
  • prayers please .. I've had this problem since I was sixteen .. was always told there's nothing we can do, its not painful, later I was told you'll be a meds forever.. that seams true .... not painful my .... you try having all your blood being pushed through your body at 200 plus beats a minute ... everything hurts, your veins, your head, your wrists and neck ... and afterwards you are so tired you want to sleep the day away. Thinking if they do this maybe no more problem.. that would be so awesome, now if they can take car of the rest of my health probs I'd be a spring chick again lol ya right lol
well enough of my ranting right .. peace out all hugs dar

a long way

miss Erica has come along way..
She has talked and talked about her plans.. in the beginning I thought maybe thats what it was talk,
especially when we started having all kinds of family things happen on both sides of the family.
My grandmas cancer and miss erica helping take care of her then my grandpa breaking his hip, she was the back bone through it all. I know she is a teenagers but she has really shown resolve and strength, I think she will do great in her career choice.
Sometimes I go through the mom thing, worrying that someone's using her but I do have to let her grow up.. right?
I told her she has gone through boot camp for boot camp .. literally. Sometimes I think poor thing, then I tell her
good thing her basketball coach was a drill sergeant .. lol .. shes been exercising every day running, crunches and the wii fit.
There is no way I could do what she is doing for herself. She wants to travel the world, and wants to learn about others. I am scared and excited for her all at the same time. Hoping we can have a party before the big send off, we shall see. I will try to keep posting the road to her adulthood here. Keep her in your thoughts and prayers, and me too for my sanity .. lol thanks dar ..
or as Eddie from work calls me dardar .. lol
